Beating rhythms in fashion:

The season of Marghazhi is an eventual and awaiting moment of the year for me. As the season sounds aloud, it reminds me of the rythemic ragas, keerthanas and chants by eminent musicians.

Being a student of NIFT  Bangalore,I recently came across an article in the “HINDU” newspaper about an interview with certain musicians. They shared their feel during this Marghazhi season. Vocalists are absolute enthusiasts and they are spotted out with a flow of concept in makeovers for their concert. It often seems musicians are devoted only into the music world but here is a blend of how they envision fashion in terms of music. A good concert echoes from a good musician. To receive a bustling populace for the concert, they need to present themselves well too, to proceed the enchants in a vibrant way. Few vocalists in their interview shared an experience of how they purchase ensembles for their concert. Female vocalists associate saree colours and motifs to the raga they encore. For instance, blue is a colour for raga bilahari, pink for raga kalyani, red and black for the raga, thodi. Percussionists  such as mirudangam  artists associate their kurta and veshti( dhoti)  borders to mirudangam covers.

A brief note of this subject made me to potray my elation through a painting. I have rendered a flow of dhoti and sarees with motifs in it. The colour choices were used according to the theme and to enhance the tone of music. The hue violet occupies a wide area. It is a colour that symbolizes spirituality and thus carnatic music is all about it. The symbol in the centre communicates bliss and relishment. The strokes emerging from it are symbolized as the three essential elements in music, without which music cannot exist.  They are shruti, raga and nadha( nadham).  The flow of music is expressed through the symbols. Dense blots of violet express the emotions that evoke while listening to music. An effort of complete four day task made me to come out with what you are gazing now. I feel a blessedness to explore varied artistry and how it can influence us on the basis of existing elements that surrounds us.
