“Art enables to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”
– Thomas Merton.

“Photography is an immediate reaction. Drawing is a meditation” as Henri Cartier Bresson voices out the quote on art and its influence to soothe once state of being, art plays a spectacular portrayal in my life. Art is defined as a form of an abstraction. My delicate mornings of every leisurely day begins with a cup of hot piping coffee and a bunch of brushes. I start to render the stroke of my very first emotion of the day. Each line conveys several telltale and it is more effectively expressed through varied hues. As we normally do have a bonding with our favourite hues, it is true that each and every colour specify varied sensation. Besides practicing meditation and yoga, that is well known to relieve stress and tension, art too has its power to heal to a large extent. On the other hand art itself is perceived as a form of meditation. Studies on art states, that it enhances creative ability skills. People passionate in art are known to be expressive in what they communicate. These people are known to be visual learners. Studies on a neurological condition called “synesthesia” branches out to a specific association towards art and hues. People with this neurological condition are referred to portray their emotions in abstract forms. This is normally called as chromesthesia. They express what they feel and it is believed to reduce stress. Therapeutic treatment on art is also conducted in several places. These treatment suggest measures to relieve the tension soon.

The treatment proceeds the way by asking the person about his/her state of mind. Based on the mood they have, they are provided with specific pastel shades and are asked to draw. It eventually calms down the mind. In this process they relieve their strain on the medium that they paint. The benefits of art therapy aids in diverse ways in healing cancer, stimulate mental function in older people, to increase self esteem and other personality traits.
A research on S H Raza’s painting (abstract artist) states a philosophical approach towards spirituality and serene powers to elevate our human traits. Raza’s paintings include basic shapes such as circle, triangle, squares and lines in all shades of primary colours. These shapes represent the five elements of nature.( the panchatatva) many other paintings of Raza include the kundalini awakening which is the emergence of dormant energy. Colours on the other hand provoke eccentric feel to energize our vibrations. The most calming hues scales down with blue, symbolizing confidence, intelligence, faith, truth and heaven. Green symbolizes freshness, stability and traditionality. Yellow represents positivity, clarity, energy and enlightment.

Thus, the artworks of eminent artist’s have been an imprint and a clue towards how meditative and restful to treat mental illnesses. Art being the passionate hobbies of several expressionist, scatters to be an optimistic means for a growth in life. Consistency in practicing art can make us stay productive and creative to the infinite.
